Seeing Is Believing

Ever since I can remember, I was told that my dad was a policeman. But being the young intellect that I was, I didn’t believe it. My dad didn’t drive a police car. He drove a regular car like everyone else. My dad didn’t wear a police uniform. He wore a suit and tie. So with that evidence, I didn’t think my parents knew what they were talking about.
Little did I know that when you are working in detectives, you don’t have to wear a uniform and you drive an unmarked police car.
I think I was about 4 or 5. My mom and I were in the kitchen at the sink which is right in front of the kitchen window. I saw my dads car drive up and then a strange man got out of the car. He was wearing a police uniform and he was walking up to our house. Wait, that’s my dad. I started screaming at the top of my lungs in excitement, “My daddy’s a policeman! My daddy’s a policeman!” Both my parents kept saying to me, “We told you he was a policeman.” I just kept screaming and jumping up and down.
If my dad hadn’t come home that day in his uniform, I might never have figured it out. (Oh, I would have. Not long after that, he went back to patrolling the street.)
Happy three day weekend all! Hope you have a great Labor Day!
